Welcome to the World Warrior! You are meant to be here!

Warrior By Blood

We may not have chosen

this warrior road but

We never have to walk it alone

together we are strong!

Life with chronic illness can feel like being thrown into a long, dark tunnel without a flashlight. But take heart—many warriors have walked this road before you. They share their stumbles and triumphs so those who follow can walk with more confidence, knowing they are not alone.

Welcome to the World Warrior Foundation will be your flashlight. We bridge the gap between you and organizations that are finding success and offering practical support. There are many of us working toward the same mission: we don’t want to just survive—we want to THRIVE.

You are

not

Alone

When the Words Change Everything... Hearing that your child has a serious illness can feel like the air has been pulled from the room. In a single moment, joy can collide with fear, and the future may seem uncertain. That's when we master the Art of the Pivot.

We Got You!

Welcome to the World Warrior! You are meant to be here!

You are going

to be fine!

“Brave doesn’t mean not scared. Brave means we keep going. Your story isn’t over — it’s just getting stronger.”

Frequently asked questions Frequently asked questions

What is Sickle Cell?

Sickle Cell Disease is an inherited blood disorder that affects hemoglobin — the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. Instead of being round and flexible, some red blood cells become crescent or “sickle” shaped. These cells can block blood flow, causing pain, infection risk, fatigue, and other complications.

But a diagnosis does not define a child’s future. With proper care, education, and advocacy, warriors can thrive.

What is Bloodless Medicine?

Bloodless Medicine is a medical approach that focuses on treating patients avoiding donor blood transfusions by optimizing the patients own blood, improving blood health, and minimizing the need.

It uses strategies like:

  • Optimizing nutrition (iron, folate, B12)

  • Stimulating the body’s own red blood cell production

  • Minimizing blood loss during procedures

  • Careful monitoring and early intervention

It is not “doing nothing.” It is proactive, strategic, and evidence-based care.

Are there safe alternatives to blood transfusions?

Yes. Depending on the situation, doctors may consider:

  • Erythropoiesis-stimulating agents

  • Oxygen therapy

  • IV fluids

  • Hydroxyurea therapy

  • Newer disease-modifying therapies
The goal is always to improve oxygen delivery while protecting long-term health.

How can I prepare for emergencies if I prefer a bloodless approach?

Preparation is key. Families can:

  • Discuss preferences with their hematology team ahead of time

  • Request care plans be documented in medical records

  • Keep copies of medical history and antibody information

  • Build care relationships with hospitals familiar with blood management strategies

Advocacy is strongest when done before a crisis.

Is the foundation anti-transfusion?

No. We are pro-education, pro-informed-consent, and pro-family empowerment.

Transfusions are a matter of conscience and personal choice. We believe families deserve to:

  • Understand risks and benefits

  • Know all available options

  • Be included in medical decisions

  • Have their values respected
